How can love be a mistake?
We err when we use the word love to describe much more than its meaning allows.
My examples: I love to ride my mountain bike on intense trails. I love to ski powder. I love a great meal of my wife’s tacos and enchiladas.
Do you love to use the word “love?” Do you love your new car, a certain TV show, musician or football team? Hey, there’s no knock on any of these things or experiences, but they can’t love you back.
Love is a relational word. It means to want the very best for someone, to strongly identify with them, and to sacrifice by doing what is best for another person.
Love is for people, for relationships. It can only be love if what we love can love us back.
Press pause and think. How can I enthusiastically like things, but save my greatest passion and love for people?
