What is it? What would kids and their dad both want just before they go to bed each night? It’s dad’s thumbprint on the forehead, sealed with a kiss.
All four kids in Patrick’s family get their own version of a special goodnight, whether dad finds them, or they hunt the house to find dad.
Patrick is raising his kids in his Catholic faith and he uses his thumb to quickly trace the four signs of a cross on their forehead. Then he playfully impresses his thumbprint into their forehead, followed by a kiss on the same spot. This is Patrick’s way of showing his affection and blessing upon each of his children.
It didn’t happen every night, but I had a unique handshake with each of my boys.
